Who am i?

Picture
My name is D'Alice (pronounced like the city Dallas).

I am a Grade 8 teacher at Fraser River Middle School in School District No.40 (New Westminster). Here I teach English Language Arts and Social Studies to my class and my partner’s division. Along with Career Education, Core French, and PHE to her class. Previously, I taught a variety of subjects at POWER Alternate Secondary, an alternate school for youth aged 16 – 19, again in New Westminster. Here I taught a variety of subjects; Applications & Workplace Mathematics 10 & 11, Science 10, Earth Science 11, Science & Technology 11, Photography 11/12, and Physical Education 10-12. This of course was after years of being a TTOC in the district and holding a few short term contracts.

Additionally, I have been a Staff Representative since 2015 with my local union. I currently hold the position of Recording Secretary on the New West Teachers' Union (NWTU) Executive and one of the positions on the Bargaining Advisory Committee.

I am a graduate of the Master of Educational Technology program offered through the University of British Columbia.  My growth as an educator has had a significant impact on my teaching and my students.  I have found by implementing technology into the class, I am bringing the learning to them.  I am meeting my students in their world as a 21st century learner.  As an educator I thrive on sharing my students success.  There is nothing more rewarding than watching them overcome the obstacles and break through barriers, both in their personal lives and in school.

It is also my goal to develop a Personal Learning Network to continue my personal development as a teacher.  As such I became a co-moderator of #bcedchat in 2014, helping build and strengthen relationships among BC educations through the use of Twitter as professional development.  I strongly believe that as educators we should model what we hope for our students, a desire to engage in life long learning by continuously challenging ourselves to pursue greater knowledge.
